The first Doctor was portrayed by William Hartnell, and he appeared in the very first episode which premiered on the BBC in 1963 and his tenure as the Doctor lasted to 1966.

Hartnell’s portrayal of the Doctor was of an eccentric and sometimes gruff old man with a penchant for wandering off into dangerous situations.

The first Doctor Who was a bit more aloof and cold than later incarnations, and he had a bit of a temper, but he was also a genius and a champion of good, always fighting to protect innocent people from evil forces.
